A mother and her 7-year-old son were abducted in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Warrensburg on Thursday night and later abandoned in a cold field outside town, police said.

Two men were charged Friday in the case and were being held on $500,000 bond each.

Police said the woman and child were leaving the store just after 8 p.m. when they were confronted by two men who displayed a knife and a handgun. They robbed the woman and then forced her to drive to an ATM to withdraw more cash, police said.

The woman was then forced to drive to a location north of Warrensburg where the men threatened to rape her and murder them both. The woman and her son were told to lie facedown in a field while the men drove away in their car, police said.

Kevin A. Ratte, 21, of Warrensburg, and Alan E. Briscoe, 23, of Knob Noster, Mo., were each charged with kidnapping and child kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child, first-degree robbery, two counts of armed criminal action and tampering with a motor vehicle.

Police did not say how they were found and arrested.
