Independence police shot and killed a man Thursday after responding to a report of a domestic disturbance.
The man was identified Friday as George D. Reynolds, 49.
Police were called about 8:40 p.m. to 1602 S. Swope Drive. Two officers were allowed into the residence and were immediately confronted by Reynolds with a handgun, according to a police statement Friday afternoon.
“Shots were fired (and) the suspect was hit, and died at the scene,” the statement said.
The officers are on administrative leave while the incident is investigated by the police department.
