Kansas City authorities on Saturday questioned a passenger apprehended while smoking in an airliner rest room.
The man, travelling on a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Kansas City, was detained upon arrival late Saturday afternoon at Kansas City International Airport. Airport police as well as the FBI questioned the man, said Joe McBride, Kansas City aviation department spokesman.
The individual was released pending further investigation, he said.
It is a federal offense to smoke on an airliner, McBride said. Airliner rest rooms often are equipped with smoke detectors, he added.
“Apparently the smoke detector worked,” said McBride.
