After a life’s work of enthralling students to what he calls “the wonder of language,” Leavenworth High School English teacher Jeff Baxter will be taking his cause all across Kansas.

Baxter was named the Kansas Teacher of the Year for 2014, which means he will be sharing his literacy education ideas with teachers in colleges and high schools in the year to come.

He’s also hearing online from hundreds of students, current and past, many of whom carried on the daily writing discipline he taught.

“I had no appreciation for social media until now,” Baxter said. “This is only beginning to sink in.”
