There’s no snow on the ground, but the cold weather has sure arrived — and it will stay around for several days.
The good news is that the freezing drizzle has moved out of the area. But cold air is moving in. Friday’s highs are expect to reach the mid-30s.
Very cold temperatures are expected overnight Friday and into Saturday morning, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
Overnight lows will be in the middle teens to middle 20s, however wind chill values will range between 5 and 15 degrees Saturday morning.
Highs Saturday are expected to be in the mid-20s to mid-30s.
Those attending the Sporting KC conference championship soccer match versus the Houston Dynamo Saturday evening will need to dress warm as highs are only expected to reach 31 in Kansas City, Kan.
The bitter cold will return Saturday night into early Sunday morning, as overnight lows are expected to fall to 9 to 15 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Light northerly winds will drop wind chills to near zero, with the values being between 2 and 10 degrees Sunday morning.
Sunday will remain cold for the Chiefs versus San Diego football game. Highs are expected to reach the upper 20s to middle 30s. Wind chills, however, will make it feel like 20 to 35 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
