An accident that caused a fiery crash in St. Louis County is blamed on fireworks that went off inside an SUV.
The accident happened Wednesday morning on Interstate 270. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a woman and her two teenage sons were seriously injured when fireworks ignited inside the vehicle.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated but no charges were filed as of Thursday morning.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says someone in the vehicle lit firecrackers and bottle rockets. The driver lost control and wrecked, causing the SUV to catch fire. The 43-year-old woman and both sons, ages 16 and 13, were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Authorities say it isn't clear who let the fireworks.
