A man wanted on a warrant for assaulting an Independence police officer was arrested Tuesday in Mission.
Police say Brent H. Young, 31, assaulted an officer shortly after 5 a.m. on Oct. 15 when the officer attempted to stop a vehicle allegedly driven by Young. He drove off but, after a short chase, stopped in the middle of the intersection of Harvard and East Ayers avenues. When the officer approached the vehicle, the driver put the car in reverse and rammed the patrol car.
The officer, who was not struck, fired shots at the driver as he drove into a dead-end driveway. The driver fled. Two other occupants of the car were taken into custody and a third was located in the restroom of a McDonald’s at 23rd Street and Sterling Avenue.
Young was arrested by Mission police about 2 p.m. at his residence in the 5800 block of Riggs Street. Police said he was hiding in the attic but surrendered when officers located him.
