Kansas City Police questioned and released a man after he was involved in a disturbance that ended in a relative’s death late Sunday.

Police did not release the name of the 48-year-old man who died in the 11:45 p.m. incident in the 13100 block of East 53rd Terrace.

He reportedly punched a 28-year-old relative, who allegedly punched him back. The two then wrestled on the floor inside the home. During the altercation, the victim stopped breathing, police said.

When officers arrived, they found the victim on his back. He had suffered no obvious signs of physical injuries, police said. The man who had fought with him had a cut to his head, police said.

The victim lived with his mother, who witnessed the incident.

Police said they would need to wait for autopsy results to learn the victim’s cause of death and whether the death was a homicide.
