A former University of Kansas laboratory director contends that he was fired for reporting what he says were improper uses of grant funds.
It’s the second lawsuit brought against the school this month that alleges misuse of research money.
David S. Moore’s lawsuit, brought in part under the Kansas Whistleblower Act, was filed in Douglas County and was made public Thursday. His lawsuit says he was fired last month as retaliation for “persistently expressing good faith concerns” about the improper financial management and accountability for KU’s Microscopy and Analytical Imaging Laboratory in Lawrence.
Moore also contends that the university discriminated against him as a disabled person suffering attention deficit disorder.
Defendants include the Kansas board of regents, the university and several employees.
KU spokeswoman Jill Jess said in an email that Moore’s allegations “are baseless.”
His lawsuit was filed two weeks after longtime professor Curtis Klaassen filed an unrelated lawsuit in federal court in Kansas against the university and its School of Medicine, also claiming the university retaliated against him for his assertion that the school misappropriated federal research grants.
The medical center strongly disputed the claims.
