Pooling water from the heavy rains has forced the closure of the left lane of southbound Interstate 35 and the exit to Southwest Trafficway.

The lane and exit on the southwest side of the downtown loop are expected to remain closed through noon Thursday.

The heavily traveled route that takes drivers south from downtown Kansas City has already been limited due to construction.

The work is part of a $40 million project to replace, re-deck or rehabilitate 18 bridges in and around the downtown area.
