Profits jump at Compass Minerals

Profits at Compass Minerals International Inc. jumped 63.8 percent in the third quarter, the Overland Park-based company said Monday.

Compass, which provides salt and fertilizer products, said it earned $15.4 million, or 46 cents a share, in the quarter. A year ago it earned $9.4 million, or 28 cents a share.

The company said its revenues grew 2 percent to $184.7 million. Compass shares closed Monday at $76.91, down 22 cents, before the earnings report.
