A 22-year-old man has been charged in relation to a fatal shooting inside a bar early Friday morning.
Gabriel Ortega-Cobos, who turns 23 on Wednesday, is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree aggravated assault and two counts of armed criminal action. He’s being held on a $250,000 cash only bond, according to a Kansas City Police news release.
Officers arrested Ortega-Cobos Friday night after a three-hour standoff at a residence in the 500 block of Cypress. He’s charged in the shooting death of Guillermo Baylon-Olivares.
Baylon-Olivares, 29, was pronounced dead at a local hospital after the shooting inside the Las Plebes tavern in the 3000 block of E. 12th St. An employee at the tavern called 911 at 12:02 a.m. Friday about an altercation. A man involved in that altercation went outside, retrieved a gun and came back inside and shot two men.
When police arrived, the suspected shooter had fled. The second victim, a man in his 40s, was shot in the leg, according to police.
