A seven-car collision on Interstate 70 near Blue Ridge Cutoff in Kansas City backed up traffic in the west-bound lanes for miles Saturday morning.

Police said the pileup resulted in some life-threatening injuries, but it was not clear how many people were involved, nor how many had been injured. Kansas City police shut down the highway after the wreck. Injured persons were transported to area hospitals.

The cause of the 9:55 a.m. accident had not been determined, but police said at least one car rolled over in the collision. The police department’s Accident Investigation Unit was called to the scene.
