He’s one of Kansas City’s favorite sons, a celebrity who hasn’t lost touch with the folks back home. So it’s about time Rob Riggle gets the honor of turning on the Country Club Plaza lights on Thanksgiving.
He might have to take time out from filming his newest movie, “Dumb and Dumber To,” the sequel to the 1994 Farrelly brothers comedy currently shooting in Atlanta.
Riggle joins Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels who reprise their roles as buddies Lloyd and Harry. Riggle plays twins in the movie, a handyman named Travis and his brother, Captain Lippencott.
The former “Saturday Night Live” performer grew up in Overland Park. He and two other homegrown celebrities – Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis – host the annual Big Slick fundraiser weekend for Children’s Mercy every summer.
Riggle is known for displaying his love for everything KC and KU, his alma mater. He’s a lifelong fan of the Chiefs and has worn their gear during skits on FOX NFL Sports Sunday, where he is the resident comedian.
Earlier this month he hosted KU’s Late Night in the Phog basketball kickoff.
The Plaza lighting ceremony begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28. Riggle will flip the switch at 6:53 p.m.
This won’t be his first time at a plaza lighting ceremony.
Headlining the Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner last November, he shared that once, during the Thanksgiving night festivities, he peed into Brush Creek.
Maybe he was joking?
