A man at the Sedgwick County Courthouse awaiting sentencing on a theft conviction helped himself to some candy at the courthouse snack shop Tuesday and left the area without paying for it, Lt. Dave Mattingly said.

Someone spotted Kevin Crowder take the candy and alerted security. When detectives questioned Crowder, they found several pieces of candy in his pockets for which he had not paid.

Once Crowder, 53, was sentenced in his previous theft case – 21 months for theft and battery at Whole Foods nearly two years ago, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office – he was booked into jail for Tuesday’s candy caper.
