A woman was killed and two other people were injured Friday afternoon when a speeding driver attempting to elude police triggered a multivehicle crash in Prairie Village.

The wreck occurred just before 1 p.m. at 75th Street and Roe Avenue, where the woman who was killed was stopped at a traffic light.

Prairie Village police said that when an officer attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation at 75th Street and Lamar Avenue, the driver refused to stop and accelerated away.

The officer backed off from pursuing the vehicle, which continued on 75th Street until striking the rear end of a vehicle at the Roe intersection.

The driver ran from the scene but was chased on foot by police.

An arrest was made a few blocks away.

A 31-year-old Shawnee man was booked into the Johnson County jail Friday on suspicion of vehicular homicide. He had not been charged.
