Photo released of Plaza jewelry store robbery getaway car

Police hope photos will help them catch the hammer-wielding robbers who robbed the Vinca Fine Jewelry on Sunday afternoon.

Police have released photos of a getaway car used by two suspects in the robbery of Vinca Fine Jewelry on the Country Club Plaza.

The surveillance photos show the suspects at a car wash with the sedan as well as a second vehicle, a silver or tan mini-van, that was driven by one of the suspects.

Police have found the getaway vehicle, a maroon Plymouth sedan. They are looking for the mini-van as well as the two suspects.

The two men are believed to have robbed the jewelry store on Sunday afternoon.

The robbers walked into the store about 3:30 p.m. wearing black masks and armed with steel hammers.

The store owner fought with one of the robbers, who tried for several minutes to strike him in the head with a hammer while the other robber smashed several jewelry cases and filled a bag.

The robbers fled in the Plymouth. A complete description of them was not available.

Police ask anyone with information about the heist to call the TIPS Hotline 816-474-TIPS (474-8477).
