Jackson County prosecutors have charged two men in the Sept. 28 killing of a man found beaten to death in a vacant Kansas City lot.
Mitchell L. Davis, 27, and Paul A. Lewis, 22, both of Kansas City, each are charged with second-degree murder in the death of Zachery McClenton.
Several witnesses saw McClenton, 42, being beaten and kicked that morning near 45th Street and Virginia Avenue. One witness identified Davis as one of the attackers, according to court documents. Another witness saw Lewis nearby and noticed he had blood on his shoes and clothing, according to court documents.
Davis later told detectives that he had gotten into a fight over comments the victim made about another man’s girlfriend.
Davis was in custody Wednesday. Lewis remained at large Wednesday afternoon and was being sought by police.
