Overland Park police are investigating a Saturday night carjacking that was similar to another committed several weeks earlier.
The most recent crime occurred at an apartment complex in the 9600 bock of Perry Lane. The victim was walking through the parking lot around 8:45 p.m. Saturday when a man wearing a mask and armed with a handgun walked out from behind a trash container and confronted him, according to police.
The robber demanded the victim’s car keys, which he handed over. Four other suspects then emerged from behind the trash container and they all fled in the victim’s 2001 gold Toyota Camry, police said.
The previous robbery occurred in late September at another apartment complex several blocks away. The victim was approached by one armed suspect who demanded his car keys at gunpoint. Once he complied, four other suspects got into his car with the gunman, police reported.
Shortly after that robbery, police in Kansas City spotted the stolen vehicle and chased it. The chase ended up in Kansas City, Kan., where one of the suspects was taken into custody.
