A strong storm system developing over Kansas and Nebraska might rain on peoples plans for Friday night.
A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to form over Kansas and Nebraska after 4 p.m. and then slowly move eastward into Missouri, according to National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Mo.
The timing for the highest severe weather chances will fall between 6 p.m. and midnight, the National Weather Service said on itsFacebook page
Storms will pose the risk for large hail and damaging winds. Those with outdoor plans this evening, especially near the Kansas/Missouri state line, should continue to monitor the forecast today and have a severe weather plan in place.
Kansas City falls under a slight risk of severe weather. Besides the damaging winds and hail, there also could be frequent lightning and locally heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather could impact such things as the American Royal World Series of Barbecue and First Friday in the Crossroads Arts District as well as high school football games and homecoming activities.
