Olathe and Overland Park police have circulated photographs of three women suspected in identical “distraction” thefts at two different grocery stores on the same day.

In both incidents, which occurred Sunday, Sept. 22, victims reported being distracted by the women and later discovering their wallets missing from their purses. Later, credit cards belonging to the victims were used in unauthorized transactions.

In Overland Park, a victim visiting a grocery store in the 7400 block of 119th Street reported being approached by two black females who engaged her in a short conversation and then left. Later the victim attempted to pay for groceries but found her wallet was missing.

Credit cards from the wallet were used to run up more than $3,000 in purchases.

In Olathe, a patron at a grocery store in the 13600 block of South Blackbob Road reported being distracted and later finding her wallet missing. A credit card belonging to that victim also was used for unauthorized transactions.

In both cases, authorities identified the suspects as three women in their 20s. Video from the Overland Park incident depicted three women entering the store together. Two of them approached the victim while a third removed the victim’s wallet from her purse, according to police.

The three women then left together in the same car.
