A St. Louis man is facing charges for allegedly setting fire to a pit bull, causing injuries so severe the animal had to be euthanized.
Felony animal abuse charges were filed Tuesday against 22-year-old Wesley Reid. He is accused of burning Zeus, a 3-year-old pit bull, in August. The dog was found with burns over much of his head, on one of his paws and on part of his body. The Humane Society of Missouri euthanized Zeus.
Police used cellphone records to tie Reid to the crime. Authorities say he sent text messages to the dog's owner suggesting that he intended to burn the animal.
