A collision between a car and a fire truck left one person injured Monday on Kansas City’s east side.
The fire engine was responding to a call, traveling on East 63rd Street just after 1 p.m. with its lights and siren on, said Sgt. Bill Mahoney of the Kansas City Police Department.
The accident occurred at East 63rd Street and Prospect Avenue where the traffic lights were under repair, Mahoney said. The signals were flashing red in all four directions.
“The driver of the car, going northbound, apparently didn’t see the lights or hear the fire truck,” Mahoney said.
The driver of the car was seriously injured and had to be extricated, according to fire department spokesman James Garrett. Four firefighters on the truck were not injured.
