Jackson County Legislature fills three seats on new Animal Welfare Committee

The Jackson County Legislature on Monday filled the final three seats on the five-member Jackson County Animal Welfare Committee, which will oversee the Regional Animal Shelter. The city of Independence recently chose the other two members.

A five-member panel has been appointed to oversee operations at the Regional Animal Shelter, which opened last spring in Independence.

The Jackson County Animal Welfare Committee is also responsible for promoting spay and neuter programs and hearing complaints about mistreatment of animals.

The Jackson County Legislature on Monday appointed three members: Daniel E. Hecker, a Kansas City veterinarian, along with Robert C. Paden Jr. of Lee’s Summit and Linda Humphrey of Independence.

The city of Independence recently picked its two representatives. They are Tim Watkins and veterinarian Edward John.
