Kansas City police conducted a sobriety checkpoint overnight and made 16 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol.
A total of 273 vehicles were stopped during the five-hour operation late Friday night and early Saturday morning at Prospect and Independence avenues.
In addition to the DUI arrests, six motorists were cited for driving with a suspended of revoked license. Three were cited for hazardous moving violations and 10 for other traffic violations.
One minor was cited for possession of alcohol, two drivers were charged with possession of marijuana and one person was charged with illegal possession of a firearm. One person was arrested on a warrant for failure to pay child support and 13 Kansas City municipal warrants were cleared.
