Charges filed in Platte County body case

Prosecutors in St. Joseph said that Tangela Fisher, whose body was found abandoned in Platte County, died after injecting drugs at a St. Joseph residence. They charged Martin Lee Williams with involuntary manslaughter and abandonment of a corpse.

Prosecutors on Thursday filed felony charges against a St. Joseph man in the death of a woman whose body was found in a wooden box in Platte County.

Martin Lee Williams was charged in Buchanan County Circuit Court with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Tangela Fisher, 35, who died after injecting drugs with Williams, according to the allegations.

Williams, 51, also was charged with abandonment of a corpse.

Fisher’s body was discovered Sept. 13 near Weston in rural Platte County.

According to court documents, Fisher and Williams were at Williams’ St. Joseph residence on Sept. 5 when he prepared a syringe containing a controlled substance, which Fisher injected into her arm. Court documents do not specify what the substance was.

When she became “unresponsive,” Williams did not call for medical help, according to the allegations.

After she died, he built a wooden box, placed her body in it and took it to Platte County, prosecutors alleged.
