Body found in burning car in Johnson County

Called to investigate a brush fire early Sunday morning, Johnson County Sheriff's Office deputies instead discovered a burning car with a body inside.

The scene at 183rd Street and Clare Road in unincorporated Johnson County, east of Gardner, Kan., has been cordoned off as a crime scene. Officers were still on the scene with a crime investigative unit as of 9 a.m., said Sheriff's Office spokesman Deputy Tom Erickson.

Deputies and a firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 5:38 a.m. The body was quickly discovered after the car fire was extinguished.
