One person was shot while in a moving vehicle on Interstate 35 in Miami County on Friday night, prompting a shutdown of the highway and a manhunt in a cornfield.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway. The Franklin County EMS transported one patient to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, reportedly with a lower-leg injury.
The interstate was shut down in both directions over a section of several miles out of concern that a sniper was targeting the highway.
The area of focus was between 215th and 223rd streets and Edgerton and Pressonville roads.
The Johnson County sheriff’s department and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted in setting up a perimeter.
Deputies were searching a cornfield in an area where the shot that hit the vehicle may have come from.
