So this probably won’t be the last accolade that Andrew Wiggins racks up during his expected one-year stay at Kansas, but at the moment, it’s the first.

Wiggins was selected a preseason All-American in the annual Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, KU announced Tuesday. Wiggins, the consensus top recruit in the 2012 class, joined Oklahoma State sophomore guard Marcus Smart, Creighton senior forward Doug McDermott, Louisville senior guard Russ Smith and Michigan State junior forward Adreian Payne on the publication’s five-man first-team squad.

“This is a great honor but really means nothing since I have yet to play a game in college,” Wiggins said in a statement. “We’re working hard every day to get better as a team and get ready for the season.”

Wiggins, a 6-8 forward from Thornhill, Ontario, averaged 23.4 points and 11.2 rebounds last season as a senior at Huntington Prep in West Virginia. Perhaps the biggest recruiting coup of the Bill Self era at Kansas, Wiggins is also expected to be a first-team All-American in the Sporting News’ annual preview magazine.
