A 30-year-old man was charged Thursday in the April shooting death of another man in east Kansas City.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Charles R. Pelton Jr. with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the April 7 shooting death of Michael Miller.

Miller, 35, was shot to death in the 2600 block of Monroe Avenue. Pelton admitted to being present at the time of the killing, but told police that another person who was angry at Miller was the shooter, according to court documents.

Pelton was already being held in the Jackson County Jail in an unrelated burglary case, according to court records. His bond in the murder case was set at $250,000.
