An aggravated assault suspect who shot himself after being stopped by Olathe police Wednesday night has died, police said Thursday.
The man, a 27-year-old resident of Overland Park, died early Thursday morning at a hospital where he had been taken after the shooting.
Police got a call about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday on a report that a man possibly armed with a gun had threatened another person. Officers responding to the call in the 16400 block of West 119th Street spotted a potential suspect vehicle in a parking lot.
When officers stopped the vehicle they heard a single gunshot. The shooter remained conscious and would not obey officers, police said.
The Olathe Police Department’s Tactical Support Unit was called out and secured the weapon.
