Three people were thrown from a car that tumbled end over end into the median of Interstate 435 in Shawnee at the beginning of Tuesday morning’s rush hour. Five people, including an infant, were injured. The crash occurred about 6:20 a.m. along southbound I-435 near Midland Drive. Ambulances rushed one person to the hospital with serious injuries and three others with moderate injuries. The extent of injuries for the fifth person was not immediately available. Two lanes of the highway in that area were closed while emergency crews worked to free passengers from the wreckage. By about 7 a.m., only the left lane and left shoulder of I-435 were closed. Traffic was getting by on two lanes. Drivers should expect to see emergency vehicles on the left shoulder of northbound I-435 in the area.
