A woman walking along Brush Creek near the Paseo on Wednesday morning saw a body floating in the creek and called police about 9:30 a.m.
Police pulled the body from the creek and determined it was that of a black male.
The body showed no obvious signs of trauma, said Officer Darin Snapp, a police spokesman. The medical examiner will have to determine the cause of death and whether it was an accident, he said.
Investigators were tying to determine when the man entered the creek, Snapp said.
“We’re thinking maybe a day or two,” Snapp said. “He didn’t die last night.”
Investigators also were examining some personal items found nearby but had not determined whether they belonged to the man whose body was found in the creek.
Police had not found any witnesses or anything to indicated the death was of suspicious origin, Snapp said. He noted that many homeless people live near the creek.
