A man in his late teens was in critical condition at an area hospital after being shot near Swope Park early Tuesday afternoon.
Kansas City Police Officer Darin Snapp said the victim was standing with two other men in the 6600 block of Askew Avenue about 1:30 p.m. when a silver Dodge Charger pulled up and someone inside began firing at the three.
The shooting victim was struck multiple times, Snapp said, but was expected to survive. The other men sustained minor injuries after being struck by debris kicked off a nearby apartment building by the shots.
Police also found fresh bullet holes in an abandoned house across the street, suggesting that one of the three men may have returned fire as the Charger sped south on Askew, Snapp said.
According to witnesses, the shooting victim appeared to be “18 or 19 years old,” Snapp said, while the other two were in their mid-20s.
