Kansas City police interrupted a burglary at a Rent-A-Center early Tuesday and arrested three men, including one who tumbled out of the fleeing getaway vehicle.
Officers were near the Rent-A-Center at 7745 Troost Ave. about 3 a.m. when a burglary was reported there. The officers heard a loud crash — later determined to be a television being dropped — as they pulled into the parking lot.
The officers found a flat-screen television in the grass behind the building and saw a silver van backing out of a nearby residential driveway. The van sped away, following a black car. The officers chased the van and arrested a man who fell out of it. Other officers followed the van until it stopped and arrested two men who tried to run.
The man who fell out of the van was taken to a hospital.
Police later found another television set dropped by the residential driveway.
Investigators think the burglars leaned a couch against the building to climb onto the roof and then broke through the roof to enter a sales office. They apparently had stockpiled several televisions in the office before police interrupted the burglary.
Detectives were questioning the men arrested from the van. Police still were looking for the people who got away in the black car.
