Motorists headed into downtown Kansas City along Interstate 35 Tuesday should brace themselves for delays.
The northbound lanes of Interstate 35 on the west side of the downtown loop will close overnight Tuesday so crews can lift girders into place for the new 12th Street Bridge to the West Bottoms.
The highway will close between Interstates 670 and 70 at 9 p.m. Tuesday and reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday. All lanes should reopen by Wednesday’s morning rush hour.
Traffic will detour onto eastbound I-670 and then north on I-70/U.S. 71 to I-35.
The closure was previously scheduled for Monday night, but rain and possible thunderstorms forced a postponement.
