A man shot to death early Sunday and three men wounded by gunfire in the 2400 block of Park Avenue were involved in a shootout, Kansas City police said Tuesday.
Investigators believe Marcus Lyman, 19, of Lee’s Summit, and a friend were firing at two other men about 2:15 a.m. Sunday after a disturbance erupted at a gathering of young people. Lyman died. One of the wounded victims has been released from a hospital, but the other two remain hospitalized.
Police aren’t sure what started the disturbance. After the gunfire erupted, many party-goers fled without talking to police.
Detectives were getting limited cooperation from the victims and were looking for witnesses. Anyone with information should call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (474-8477).
Lyman pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon in October and received five years probation. A condition of his probation was to forfeit his weapon.
