Possible sighting of jail escapee reported in OP

An Arkansas man has been wanted since July 28, when he bolted from a county jail and escaped in a waiting car. A possible sighting was reported in Overland Park on Monday.

Overland Park police are investigating a possible sighting of an escaped jail inmate from Arkansas.

On Monday, someone reported seeing a vehicle in the area of 87th Street and Interstate 35 that had a license tag associated with the escapee, according to Overland Park police.

But police have not been able to verify the report.

Derrick Estell escaped from a county jail in Arkansas on July 28 by diving head-first through a slim window into the jail lobby. He then sprinted outside and got into a waiting car that authorities believe was driven by his girlfriend. His mother is charged with aiding his escape.

Authorities in southern Missouri believe Estell stole a blue 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck after breaking into a home in Dallas County over the weekend.

Estell has a lengthy criminal record and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to authorities.
