Prairie Village considering Google Fiber

The city council is scheduled to take up the Google Fiber proposal at its Monday night meeting

The Prairie Village City Council is considering an agreement with Google Fiber to bring the high-speed internet service to the city.

The council is scheduled to address the issue at its meeting this Monday night, according to a meeting agenda.

The proposed agreement calls for Google to install a one gigabit-capable fiber network to sell high-speed broadband and video services in designated areas. It could also include the construction of a WiFi network in some areas for public WiFi access and commercial purposes, according to meeting agenda information.

If the agreement is approved, Prairie Village would join a growing number of area suburban cities getting the Google Fiber service initially offered in Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City.
