A Jackson County jury has found a 22-year-old man guilty in the 2009 shooting death of another man in south Kansas City.
The jury on Thursday night convicted Derrick C. Bluett of first-degree murder in the November 2009 killing of 20-year-old Maurice West.
After the shooting at 116th Street and Holiday Drive, police used images from surveillance cameras in the area to identify witnesses who ultimately led then to Bluett.
Bluett was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court last year while he was serving a five-year prison sentence in an unrelated case.
He now faces a sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole in the murder case.
