When we think of great celebrity dads, a few names spring quickly to mind – Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Hugh Jackman are all known to be doting dads.
But Simon Cowell? The man who once said of having children: “God, no.”
Well, it looks like he’s changed his mind about fatherhood.
Us Weekly reports that the 53-year-old “X Factor” creator is going to have a baby with New York socialite Lauren Silverman, who is about 10 weeks into her pregnancy, sources tell the mag.
Here’s where it gets interesting: Lauren, 36, is married to one of Cowell’s close friends, New York real estate mogul Andrew Silverman.
The magazine reports that she plans to leave her estranged husband. Cowell’s camp has not confirmed the reports.
“Lauren and Andrew have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while,” the source tells Us Weekly. “As their marriage deteriorated, she and Simon became close.”
Apparently so. The magazine notes that even though the surly Brit has shown disdain for the thought of fatherhood in the past, he seems to have warmed recently to the subject.
In an interview last year with AOL Music, Cowell said he actually likes kids, but the problem had always been “how much time you need to devote to bringing up kids. I've always dedicated all my life to work, and at 52, I've probably missed the opportunity.”
UPDATE: An assistant to Cowell's U.K. representative tells People magazine: "This is a very sensitive issue and all media inquiries are being dealt with by his U.S. attorney."
