A judge has ordered a mental evaluation for a Kansas City, Kan., woman accused of trying to kill her two young daughters.

Attorneys for Johnna Green requested the evaluation to determine if she is competent to stand trial in Wyandotte County District Court on two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Green, 23, is charged with attempting to drown the 1- and 4-year-old girls in April. She has been in jail since the incident.

In order to be considered competent under Kansas law, she must be able to understand the nature of court proceedings and be able to assist her attorneys in her defense.

It is not known how long the evaluation will take.
