Although Liberty police still have not publicly confirmed that the body of missing jogger Chad Rogers has been found, his family on Saturday planned a memorial service.
The “Chad Is Home” celebration will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the family’s church, Shoal Creek Community Church, 6816 S. Church Road in Pleasant Valley.
Everyone is welcome to celebrate Rogers’ life, said family friend Tim Fritson.
Rogers, a marathon runner and stay-at-home father, had not been seen since he left home about 8:30 p.m. Monday to go for a run. On Friday, a construction worker found a body in a portable toilet near where the Flintlock Flyover overpass is being built above Interstate 35, close to South Valley Junior High School.
The site is about 2 miles from where searchers spent days trudging through high grass, weeds and woods looking for signs of Rogers. Search dogs had tracked him to that area.
Thus far, police have released few details about the discovery.
They expect to confirm the identity of the body and more details about the death early this week, Fritson said.
Friends have started a Chad Rogers Memorial Fund at U.S. Bank for Rogers’ 13-month-old son, Matthew, and Fritson said people can donate at any of the bank’s locations. Friends are also planning a concert and 5K/10K race to benefit the fund.
