The Chiefs gave starting quarterback Alex Smith and backup Chase Daniel the morning off Thursday, the third and final day of practice for rookies, quarterbacks and selected veterans.
Veteran tight end Tony Moeaki and wide receiver Donnie Avery also sat out, but running back Shaun Draughn practiced. Backup cornerback Buddy Jackson left practice early because of an injured left hamstring.
Rookie Tyler Bray and third-year pro Ricky Stanzi split the quarterback duties.
All veterans were to report to the Chiefs’ training camp site at Missouri Western State University on Thursday. The team’s first full practice is scheduled for Friday.
Offensive tackle Eric Fisher, the club’s first-round draft pick, remained unsigned and absent from camp.
