Jackson County prosecutors on Wednesday accused a 20-year-old man of beating and stomping a teenager’s head Saturday.

Paul D. Thurman of Kansas City faces a charge of first-degree assault. He also is charged with property damage for allegedly running through a plate glass door at an apartment complex in the 8000 block of Campbell Street when detectives tried to arrest him. The door will cost more than $750 to replace.

Court records allege Thurman was one of two men who attacked the 16-year-old victim as he walked with a friend near Linwood Boulevard and Park Avenue about 4 p.m. Saturday. Thurman began punching him because of an ongoing dispute, police and court records allege.

A second man joined the fight, knocking the teen to the ground. Both attackers kicked and stomped on his head. The teen suffered critical injuries. The victim identified Thurman as one of his attackers, according to court records.

Police continue to look for the second attacker.
