K-State football picked sixth in Big 12 preseason poll, KU last

Will Kansas State football repeat history? The Wildcats were picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 preseason media poll released Thursday, same as last season, when they won the conference championship. Kansas, coming off a 1-11 season, was picked last.

Maybe it’s a sign.

Just like last year, the Kansas State football team was picked by the media to finish sixth in the Big 12 this season, garnering only one first-place vote. We all know what happened next. Bill Snyder worked his magic, and the Wildcats won the conference title for the second time since 2003.

Last year, Oklahoma was the media’s preseason choice to win the Big 12. K-State and Oklahoma finished the season tied, but the Wildcats beat the Sooners in Norman, Okla., securing the Big 12’s Bowl Championship Series berth.

This year, Oklahoma State is the preseason No. 1, getting 365 points and 15 first-place votes. The Sooners are close behind with 355 points and eight first-place votes, followed by TCU, Texas, Baylor, K-State, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Iowa State and Kansas.
