Law enforcement agencies in Independence, Kansas City, Olathe and Overland Park plan to conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols this weekend.

Several agencies will also check drivers for valid driver’s licenses.

Kansas City police will conduct a driver’s license checkpoint Wednesday. The department will also conduct a sobriety checkpoint sometime this weekend in an area known for alcohol-related crashes and arrests.

Overland Park police announced they will conduct a DUI saturation patrol on Friday. The special enforcement effort will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and last until 2 a.m. Saturday.

During saturation patrols, officers drive the city’s streets specifically looking for drunken drivers.

Independence police’s Traffic Safety Unit also announced they will conduct both a sobriety checkpoint and saturation patrol this weekend.

And Olathe police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint from 11 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday.
