Three area men were charged Tuesday with murder in a robbery attempt that left a Kansas City man dead early last Thursday.

James Jackson, 29, was shot in a vehicle at 20th Street and Denver Avenue.

The defendants are Willie J. Gibson Jr., 24, of Kansas City; Larry L. Wood Jr., 29, of Independence; and Marcus M. Williams, 24, of Overland Park.

According to court documents, Independence police on Monday stopped a vehicle containing the defendants and all three were arrested on outstanding warrants. Two of the defendants reportedly told police the shooting happened during a robbery following an arranged drug deal.

Prosecutors requested a cash bond of $250,000 on each defendant. All three were in jail Tuesday night.
