An early morning standoff involving an armed, emotionally-disturbed person on a south Kansas City motel balcony ended peacefully Monday.

Police responded about 2:50 a.m. to a report of a disturbance at the motel in the 6100 block of East 87th Street.

When officers arrived, they found “an armed person” on a second floor balcony. Early police reports did not indicate the gender of the person.

After initial negotiations with the person to surrender failed, police called an Operation 100, which is a tactical response to a barricaded person.

Police took the person into custody about 5:25 a.m. without incident.
