For many of us, the Fourth of July holiday starts at 5 p.m. the night before, and there’s no reason to stay home.
Unless you want to, of course.
From the Missouri River into Cass County, and from State Line Road to the eastern rim of the area, holiday revelers can find plenty of events to attend. Here’s a rundown:Today
Lee’s Summit Legacy Blast:
6 p.m. at Legacy Park. Food, entertainment and inflatables followed by fireworks display choreographed to music.
Powell Gardens, Kingsville, Mo.:
Booms Blooms Festival, 1 p.m. Daylilies will be featured in the Perennial Garden. Also, look for tasting stations, children’s activities, the Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks. $5-$12.July 4
KC RiverFest: This city-sponsored event starts at 4 p.m. at Berkley Riverfront Park, with two stages of music and a flyover of vintage World War II aircraft about 5:15 p.m. Fireworks display at dark. Admission is free until 5 p.m., then it’s $5. Tickets are available online at kcriverfest.com
. Parking is $10 for the day.
Jackson County will start its celebration at 6 p.m. at Longview Lake Beach. Expect live music, skydivers, carnival games and a giant water-balloon contest, followed by fireworks.
Ward Parkway Center: Ward Parkway Four on the Fourth, 7 a.m. Four-mile race and a fun run for kids. Entry fees are $35 and $15. For more information, go to enter2run.com
The fun starts at 2 p.m. in City Park. Pool games, children’s activities, fireworks and live music by Crooked Country.
4 p.m. start in Recreation Park. Classic car show, children’s games, live music and fireworks.
Fort Osage National Historic Landmark:
9 a.m. at the fort in Sibley. Celebration of the 35th Independence Day, with musket and cannon demonstrations, patriotic speeches and interpretive demonstrations. $3-$7.
Missouri Town 1855:
Daytime event begins at 9 a.m. Parade and other activities will recreate Independence Day in 1850s style in Fleming Park. $3-$5.
Let Freedom Ring Parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Independence Square. A free concert featuring American Rhythm is being offered at 7 p.m. at the Community of Christ Auditorium, 1001 W. Walnut. Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. at the Mormon Visitors Center, 937 W. Walnut, with the Spirit of Independence Band playing before and during the show.
Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Heritage Philharmonic will put on a concert of patriotic music at 8 p.m. and then play under the fireworks at William Henry Harrison Park.
7 p.m. at Blue Springs High School’s Peve Stadium, 2000 N.W. Ashton Drive. Music by 6 Degrees West and Tyler Farr, followed by fireworks.July 5
Starlight Theatre: Mix 93.3’s Red White Boom, 5 p.m. Music by Carly Rae Jepsen, Emblem 3, MKTO, Hot Chelle Rae and Stefano Langone. $15-$95.
